Red Hot Chilli Pepper....review of Chilli Sauces

Hello everyone!!!! I am so excited today....why??? because I am gonna share with you all a review of different types of chilli sauces that I ever tried before...I hope this will guide you to buy an appropriate chilli sauce for a certain type of foods....after all it all depends on your taste of how you would like your meal to be treated.....I appreciate that different person has their own personal style....ok lets started....

This is my favourite Maggi Chilli Sauce ever....my mum used to serve it with spring rolls or any type of dessert since I was a kid. Its pretty easy to find this chilli sauce outside my hometown including Ireland/UK. So its not a big deal for me to get this chilli sauce whenever I needed. Normally I buy it at oriental shop but sometimes certain tesco retail shop or dunnes store sells this items too. Sometimes it can be out of stock but most of the time it wont be.

Like any other chilli sauce, Maggi chilli sauce comes in different added flavours such as extra hot, with garlic, with black/white pepper etc. I have only try original, extra hot and with garlic flavour. BUt I still prefer the original flavour coz original is always the best!!! So what type of food I normally eat with Maggi chilli sauce or what type of food I use it as part of the ingredients? I serve it with spring roll, jemput-jemput udang/ikan bilis (this is fried wheat floor added with water and prawn/anchioves), fried noodles, hot dogs, burger, fish crackers..etc,etc. My sweet and sour sauce won't be a perfect sauce without this chilli sauce from Maggi. Sometimes I put some chilli sauce in fried rice noodle recipe...

Ok what's up next? Its a very famous chilli sauce ever in Ireland which is available in almost Irish retail shop.....its a Thai sweet chilli sauce. You can find it in many brands such as MaePloy, Mr Chef, etc, etc....For me it all taste the same....its hot and sweet....unlike Maggi's, Thai chilli sauce has more sweetness therefore I only prefer it for certain foods such as spring roll and jemput-jemput. I dont go with burger or hotdog because it does not taste just right...if you cant handle hotness too much, this is a perfect choice for you...

Its also available in Mr Chef brand with exact same bottle and label.....haha....and its cheap!!!

This one from MaePloy is also cheap...easy to find it at oriental/halal shops.....

Chilli sauce from Sriracha offer you a totally different taste from previous types....the sauce is like a paste, less liquidness compare to the rest. What I can say, the taste is hot and sour, definitely not sweet at all. So far I can substitute it with Maggi chilli sauce in any food especially if Maggi's is not available. But to make sweet and sour sauce, I still need one from Maggi. Beware for someone who can not handle spicy food, just be cautious whenever you try Sriracha sauce okey?? if you like it Im glad =)

Lingham's Chilli sauce come in a variety of added flavours....normally I find only the original and with garlic in many retail shops. For me the taste is quite strong....its a little bit more of everything...its sweetness, saltness, hotness...all of these for are strong....however its still nice and tasty, suitable for almost any range food to add more spicyness in it....

Original Lingham's

With Garlic...yummy...

Last but not least is my other favourite chilli sauce from Italy.....TABASCO....Its totally different taste from Maggi, Lingham, Thai Sweet...its hot and sour...well...I have not try all ranges of Tabasco but thats what it is...the original recipe of tabasco sauce....I recommend this if you have a barbeque in the house....Does not matter whether its chicken, beef or any barbeque, its less flavour without Tabasco....

These are just my own personal opinion on different types of chilli sauce I ever tried. After all, you can try all the chilli sauce under the sun if you want some hotness in your foods. Best of Luck!!!

Random

Its very warm and hot inside my double bed room. I check the current morning weather in I-phone application. Its only 9 degree celcius. Open the double-glazed window glass widely let the air flows into my room. The sunshine spread straights to my bed through the window. What a fresh-bright-cozy Sunday morning today!!!!!

BUt my throat is still sore for these few days. I blamed the acid regurgitation from my tummy. It only took overnight these acid tore the mucus surround my throat. Its so painful.....

Only 1 week left before I resume back to work.........I feel like a vacation to my hometown...Malaysia..!!!!

I miss pasar malam a.k.a night market

Even if I only have 1 week holiday, definitely Malaysia is my fav destination. Because its a vacation, why bother to cook?? All the glorious foods are available outside and its normally cheap. Does not matter if you cook or buy food, it will be the same. Some of the food I do not know how to make it or it will takes your time to make it, so I prefer to buy. I am on vacation..come on!!!

At pasar malam, its not just food you can get there. Groceries, ladies/mens wear, toys, every single thing you name, you can find it here. Plus you can bargain if you buy more than 1 or 2 items.

I have not been to Pulau Tioman yet....when it will be??

Pulau Tioman/Tioman Island cartoon map

Magnificent!!

Swimming, BBQ, snorkeling, boat riding, I don't practice sunbathing, take some photos.....thats what I feel at the moment....

Well lets take it like this...its a sunny day...on sunday morning..in Sligo....lets start the engine and go to Strandhill!!! or any other beach along the way......but I can't surf yet...uhhuuhuu so sad...

Strandhill surfers...

HOw to make TEMPE goreng

HAve you been to Malaysia or Indonesia??? If yes, you might encounter this special food from these constituents which is called TEMPE. Tempe is made from soya beans. It needs to be fermented for several days until each of soya beans are packed together till it become like a cake. You also can call tempe as soya bean cake.

So I would like to share to you guys how to make 'tempe-goreng' which means Fried Tempe. Its a basic requirement to use tumeric powder for this recipe. So you need tumeric powder in this recipe.

You need:

1) Soya bean cake (tempe). Get this at Asian Market shop in Dublin. It comes in rectangle shape. Only cost around 2.99 euro. Cut it into slices as shown in the picture

2) Tumeric Powder (1 teaspoon)

3) Salt (1-3 pinches)

4) Water (3-4 tablespoons)

5) Cooking oil

Steps you have to follow:

1) Heat cooking oil in a deep fryer or saucepan
2) Mix tumeric powder, salt and water.

3) Put one or two slices of tempe into tumeric mixture. Make sure tempe is coated well with tumeric.

4) Fry it till it become golden colour/crispy.

5) Serve it with dark chili sauce (find this recipe in my previous entry) or you can eat it just like that.

Its so tasty!! trust me....suitable for vegetarians/vegans as well.....

Tempe/Tempeh...Its the same...

Up side down...sorry...

Cut it like this

Picture not in correct manner...this is tumeric mixture..

Put tempe into tumeric mixture one by one...until well soaked...

I dont have deep fryer...saucepan will do....

Frying...

Nearly done....you can see its already become golden crispy!!

Thats it!!

Some dark chili sauce to serve with...

Tada...its ready!!! Enjoy!!!

Hallaluya!!! I am BACK!!!!

MACARONS

Its been like nearly 2 months I do not update anything in here........what had happened???
......WELL.....I do not want to say this .....because...this is the most famous excuse people will make to say they are REALLY have no time for other stuff including their hobby.....WELL....I think you guys can guess what is the OBVIOUS reason.......I tell you now....secretly.....SHIsHhhh......"I have Exam coming up"......

Unfortunately I had cancelled my exam last Thursday due to health problem....I might share this sad story in another entry but depends on my mood.....even though its a sad story at least I have 2 weeks holiday!!!! hahahaha......so why not doing some interesting stuff that not require strenuous energy.....for example COOKING.....i like.....

I have been dreaming to bake macarons - French Posh Cookies- for ages.....seriously....whenever I visit Dublin, Laduree at Brown Thomas is my fav spot to get this food. Please read my previous entry about this cookies at Laduree and how much it cost per cookie....damn expensive!!! So all this while...I've been searching for its secret recipe - the magic techniques to make this delicious cookie in the world- in the internet, at book stores nearby...but could not find it until I went to Dublin again. Finally found this cute little Macarons recipe book at Eason.

So yesterday I went to Tesco to buy the important ingredients, some cooking tools ie mixer, cooling rack, spatula etc....I started to make the buttercream in vanilla flavour. Very challenging for me....people spend 1 hour to make it but I spend more than 3 hours..hahaha....I made a mistake so had to fix it......when buttercream done...thats it....no more cooking....went straight to bed...continue the next day for its shells....

So the tomorrow is actually today......there is no other food colouring paste except for green....my vanilla macarons is green colour which myself cannot help at all.....
For me the most difficult technique is pipping the dough on top of baking sheet....is like once the tip head down, its pouring uncontrollable thats makes the small circle became larger like an elephant!!!! Thank God on the third round I know how to manage the pipping and YESS I make many small circles..BUT....its not round circles...its small little island with irregular surround border.....hahaha....

NOt to mention about the how the cookies look like after baking......lots of cracks/bumps on top of it...hihihi....
The good side about "my 1st time" macarons is... the taste is exquisite.....its so delicious that I cannot believe it is actually taste similar to Laduree's.... The crunchiness and softness are just perfect....i like the green colour when its become crunchy cookie and its a perfect combo with the cream colour of vanilla buttercream!!!!!

So ENjoy the pictures...thats all I have for today...GTG...p/s: I am starving right now...my lunch was missing because too busy preparing these cookies..have to go to tesco right now hunting for comfort food!!!!

Small little islands not round circles....

Some got cracked, some are prefect...

Completely crushed into pieces...failed to separate it from baking sheet..

Whats had left inside pipping bag....nothing!!!

Yummy creamy vanilla buttercream!! I Like!!

Broken eggs

10 euro pistachio...can't wait for another cooking trip!!

My 1st time macarons..not bad e???

Love the colour...

Lets zoom the crakes...

Today is My Birthday

Its been 14 minutes passed since 0000 hours. Which means now its officially my 28th birthday!!! The March 15th

The good news is 17th March is a public holiday for Irish people to celebrate St Pat's day.
Isn't it nice to have a public holiday not remote from your birthday...Just like Mee....

So guys...I plan to bake a birthday cake for myself on St Pat...any suggestion on which cake recipe should I try???

I am not great at baking seriously. And not a cake-holic person either. But I know I like cheesecake and fruitcake...

Fruitcake sound like a brilliant idea since I have not try it before...but I welcome any suggestion cause my choices are really limited right now...

Please gimme suggestions....please..please..=)

When I am busy

One sweet day.
I was fasting yet still so busy.
The breaking point was at 6 pm
I was still at work at 5.45 pm.
No preparation what so ever before I could eat officially
So....before heading home, go straight to restroom, grabbed a cup of tea. Immediately at 6pm, started to drink.....now, lets go home!!!

What did I have in fridge to cook?
Well a bag of frozen peeled prawn, frozen veg, chicken, beef, and fish.
Its at 6.15 pm. Urgently decided what to cook before the time fly by quickly.
No time for defrosting, chopping etc
Ok...why not instant fried noodles!!...thats sound perfect...this can be ready in less than 20 minutes

What I use for the ingredients are...

1) Instant cook spaghetti (available in Tesco)
2) Frozen cooked and peeled prawn
3) Frozen veg (combo of carrots, cauliflower, broccoli)
4) 1 small packet of instant fried rice powder (instead of fried rice, I like a twist. I substitute with noodles. Powder form is easy to dissolve with noodles)
5) 1 or 2 eggs (depends on size)

Its really simple and a very quick recipe.

1) Boil a water and put the spaghetti into it till it soft. Should be done in 2-5 minutes
2) Bring the soften spaghetti to dry. Put aside
3) Heat frying pan with cooking oil
4) Put prawn and veg. Let it cook till soften and dry. This may be take about 10 minutes
5) Pour the spaghetti and instant powder into pan. Stir it well.

6) I forgot to splash the egg after prawn and veg. So what I did, make some space inside the pan, and fried the egg like a scramble one.

Nearly done

And its done!!! Ready to have a proper meal now....

I considered to make a dessert as well. I prepared this while I was cooking the main course.
This is Pengat Pisang, simply Banana with sweet coconut sauce.
Do not have a complete picture how it is look like but at least I have these already-cut-into-small-pieces-banana pics.....

All you need are:
1) Banana
2) Coconut powder or liqiud
3) Dark brown sugar
4) Water

Steps:
1) Chop banana into small cubes like this
2) Boil the water. Pour the brown sugar
3) Pour coconut oil. Bring to boil. make sure stir it well after the coconut to prevent forming of coconut oil.
4) Pour the banana cubes till it soften.
5) Ready to serve. You can have it when its hot or cold. I prefer cold
